Good Farming Practice

Under the Agenda 2000 Agreement the integration of environmental concerns is deemed to be central to CAP Reform. Good Farming Practice is common sense farming which cares for the environment and meets minimum hygiene and animal welfare standards. Good farming practice also involves complying with the law on the environment, hygiene, animal welfare, animal identification and registration and animal health.

Observation of the code of Good Farming Practice is now a requirement of all Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development grant aid schemes.

If you have any queries in this regard we would be delighted to assist or advise you on any aspect of this matter.

The following are the key aspects of Good Farming Practice:

  • Nutrient Management
  • Grassland Management
  • Protect the Environment
  • Records
  • Animal Welfare
  • Hygiene
  • Non Use of Prohibited Substances and Responsible Use of Animal Remedies
  • Compliance and Penalties
